My first blog post

My personal experience with wine has been fairly lacking so far. I’ve had wine on many occasions, but seldom go out of my way to pick up a bottle at the store. I’ll usually drink a glass or two during a quiet night in, at a get together with friends, or at a restaurant, but don’t settle for a bottle when questioning what to drink on a Friday night.

Although my wine tasting experience is low, I already have an idea of what I like and don’t like. I tend towards red wines, and I enjoy a nice mildly dry flavor that maintains hints of fruit. I don’t like when wine is too sweet to the point that it tastes like soda, and I also don’t like when white wines taste like a stick of butter or when a red wine feels like it’s completely dehydrating my mouth. Overall, I’d say my favorite types of wine are Riesling and Merlot.

Some of my friends have taken this course and know what they’re talking about when they talk about wine, so I’m hoping this class will help me know what I’m doing too! I don’t know how to taste wine, how to sense its subtleties, or even where it comes from or how it's made. I’m excited to learn all that in this course so I can impress my family and friends and appreciate the delicious drink a little more.
